New Mountain Bike Trails Being Built In Maine

Several new mountain bike trails have been built and are almost ready for riding near Portland, Maine.

Three new trails have recently been built at Lowell Preserve in Windham, Maine, just north of Portland. The 300-acre preserve is protected and managed by the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust (PRLT) and features several miles of trails for biking, hiking, trail running, and more.

Members of the PRLT and Greater Portland NEMBA have been working with trail builder Chris Cyr to create the new mountain bike trails. While the new trails are not yet open for public use, PRLT officials said they are close.

One of the trails is a mile-and-a-half technical two-way multi-use trail for hiking, biking, and trail running, which also has a handful of alternate route one-way mountain bike features built in. Another trail is a downhill mountain-bike-only trail full of berms, drops, switchbacks, and bridges. The third trail is also mountain-bike-only and is a climb trail to reach the top of the downhill trail.

PRLT officials said they will announce when the trails are open for public use soon.
