In a clear sign that the ski season is rapidly approaching, crews at Maine‘s Sunday River fired up the resort’s snowguns early this morning.

As temperatures dipped into the mid 30s early this morning, snowmakers at Sunday River pounced at the opportunity to test the resort’s snowguns prior to the season.
According to resort officials, the team fired up snowguns over Lollapalooza, Rogue Angel, and Excalibur, marking the first time Sunday River’s system was in action for the 2026/26 season.

While it was just a test of Sunday River’s snowmaking system, it’s the kind of sign of things to come that skiers and riders throughout the Northeast have been waiting all summer to see.
