Unroped Climber Rescued 500 Feet Up In New Hampshire

A rock climber in New Hampshire who was unroped and climbing alone had to be rescued yesterday when he became nervous 500 feet off the ground.

According to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials, conservation officers received a report of a climber in distress shortly after 8 a.m. on Sunday, October 25.

The 30-year-old man from Maine was reportedly rock climbing alone on Whitehorse Ledge in Hales Location, New Hampshire, but he had reached a point where he no longer felt comfortable going up or down.

The climber was able to get to a spot where he felt secure and placed a call for help.

Officials said the climber was unroped on a climbing route named Sliding Board. He was reportedly about 500 feet from the ground.

A conservation officer and members of Mountain Rescue Service and North Conway Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.

Nine climbers from the Mountain Rescue Service quickly organized and worked together to climb to the man’s location, secure him, and fix ropes back to the base of the cliff.

The entire party descended safely and were back on the ground shortly before 10 a.m.
