Two teenage hikers who reportedly had no lights had to be rescued on Mount Washington last night.
According to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials, they received a report of two hikers caught by darkness at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3.
The two 18-year-old hikers from New York were at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Lakes of the Clouds Hut—which is closed for the season—and reportedly in need of assistance. The hikers said they did not have lights.
Officials told the two hikers to use an emergency shelter at the hut and wait for rescuers to arrive.
Conservation officers and members of the Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue Team began hiking to the hut at 7:15 p.m.
The first rescuers reached the hut at 9:14 p.m. They warmed the two hikers and provided food, lights, and extra clothing.
At 10:08 p.m., the hikers and rescuers left the hut and began hiking down the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail. They arrived safely at the Base Station of the Cog Railway at 1:45 a.m.
