For the second time in just over three months, forest rangers in New York have had to rescue a group of hikers tripping on mushrooms.
Rangers received a 911 satellite text from a hiker reporting a group of four hikers were lost near Giant Ledge in the Slide Mountain Wilderness at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 29.
The hiker admitted the group had consumed mushrooms and one of them was experiencing a debilitating high.

At 6:45 p.m., three forest rangers located the group of hikers. Rangers and local firefighters assisted the hikers to the trailhead where they were evaluated by Shandaken Ambulance.
Officials said that somewhere along the way the hikers also lost their car keys.
Rangers provided a courtesy ride to the subjects’ rental lodging. The following day, a ranger hiked back up and found a sling bag with the keys under a log in tall ferns.
This is the second incident involving hikers on mushrooms in recent month.
In May, two hikers who were lost on Cascade Mountain in New York after ingesting hallucinogenic mushrooms called 911 to report their hiking companion was dead.
The hiker was actually still alive.
