Summer Adventures at Berkshire East

Berkshire East Mountain Resort has long been known as a winter ski destination. But when the snow melts, the mountain shifts into one of New England’s most dynamic summer adventure hubs packed with ziplines, rapids, trails, and ridge-line views.

While many ski areas settle into a sleepy off-season, Berkshire East bursts to life with a collection of summer activities that rivals any adventure park in the Northeast. From world-class mountain biking to aerial zip tours, there’s a way for everyone to tap into the region’s wild terrain.

Mountain Biking: Flow, Features, and Forested Singletrack

Berkshire East’s Thunder Mountain Bike Park has become a magnet for riders across New England. Chairlift-serviced downhill trails carve through hardwood forest, with everything from wide, beginner-friendly flow lines to advanced terrain studded with rock gardens, drops, and high-speed berms. The trail crew shapes and updates features throughout the season, ensuring fresh challenges for returning riders.

Rental gear and lessons make it easy for newcomers to jump in, and the lift-accessed terrain means more riding, less climbing, and a full day of gravity-fed fun.

Ziplining: One of the Region’s Top Aerial Tours

Berkshire East boasts some of the longest, fastest ziplines in North America.

Take the Valley Jump Tour and zip over the Deerfield River Valley at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour on six zip lines with spectacular views. Lines range in length from 1,000 to 2,600 feet and approach 200 feet in the air.

The Mountain Top Tour offers a more accessible intro option for families and beginners—still exciting, but perfectly manageable for first-timers.

In addition to zip lines, the Berkshire East Aerial Adventure Park is a unique and exciting suspended challenge course featuring a unique blend of elevated wooden platforms and exciting elements.

Whitewater Rafting: Ride the Deerfield River

With Berkshire East’s partnership with Zoar Outdoor, guests have easy access to one of New England’s best rafting rivers. The Deerfield River offers multiple sections ranging from family-friendly Class I and II stretches, to splashy Class III rapids, to the big waves and steep drops of Class IV.

Guided trips run daily in peak season, and the scenery — oak forests, narrow canyon walls, and sparkling green pools — makes every trip memorable.

Mountain Coaster: A Gravity Ride for All Ages

The Thunderbolt Mountain Coaster is one of the premier alpine coasters in the country.

Riders control their own speed as they snake through the woods on steep banks, fast straightaways, and sudden dips.

It’s a rush that appeals as much to adventure-loving kids as to thrill-seeking adults, and because you ride solo or in pairs, the experience feels tailored to your comfort level.

Scenic Chairlift Rides & Hiking

If you prefer your mountain adventures at a gentler pace, Berkshire East delivers with scenic summit chairlift rides.

At the top, you’ll find sweeping views of the Berkshires, the Deerfield River Valley, and the undulating ridges of western Massachusetts. Short hiking loops extend from the summit, offering peaceful woodland paths and benches perfect for picnics.

Camping

Berkshire East offers basic camping for guests who are looking to stay onsite during their visit. They offer 17 tent camping sites as well as oversized camping in designated areas of our main parking lot.

Additionally, visitors can also camp at nearby Mohawk Trail State Forest or Savoy State Forest.
