Campers who want to book a campsite in Vermont State Parks may soon have to pay more during busy times.
Officials with the Vermont Department of Forest, Parks, and Recreation are asking for the flexibility to set prices for camping reservations and day-use fees at Vermont state parks based on demand.
Campers at Vermont State Parks currently pay a flat fee to reserve campsites.
The proposal was included in Vermont State Park’s proposed rules changes for 2026, but according to a report by Vermont Public, any price increases will not occur this summer.
According to the Vermont Public report, officials said the plan would help Vermont State Parks recover costs while also encouraging the public to spread out their visits to lesser-visited parks.

The public comment period on the proposal has already passed. However, department officials will now file the proposal with the Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules, where there will be another opportunity for public input.
Any fee increases would require a 90-day public notice period with opportunity for public comment before taking effect.
