Officials in New Hampshire are investigating whether a meteor started a large forest fire above Lost River Gorge in North Woodstock, New Hampshire.

Firefighting crews battled the large blaze along steep terrain on Dilly Cliff yesterday. Crews, along with a National Guard Black Hawk helicopter, are returning today to continue fighting the fire.

According to an article on UnionLeader.com, Woodstock Fire Chief John MacKay, the incident commander, said he had heard reports that someone driving through the notch at 7 p.m. Monday evening saw “a meteor or a comet” fall from the sky. He added that he thinks the fire was not intentionally set.
