Workers recently completed $800,000 of improvments in safety and accessibility at New York’s Kaaterskill Falls.
With its two-tiered waterfall, rising over 260 feet, Kaaterskill Falls is one of the most iconic destinations in the Hudson Valley.
The improvements, completed under New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Adventure NY Initiative, include a 200-foot cable hand rail on the trail leading to the middle pool of the falls to improve hiker safety, enhancements to the Kaaterskill Falls trail, which also leads down to the middle pool, and the rehabilitated one-half-mile section of trail leading to the Kaaterskill trail system. Through the Adventure NY Initiative, DEC is making strategic investments to expand access to healthy, active outdoor recreation, connect more New Yorkers and visitors to nature and the outdoors, and protect natural resources.
Adventure NY will undertake 75 projects throughout the state over three years, ranging from improvements to youth camps and environmental education centers to new boat launches, duck blinds, and hiking trails to better serve everyone who wants to enjoy New York’s vast natural resources.
