AmericanRivers.org has launched a new interactive map showing all the rivers designated “Wild and Scenic” throughout the U.S.
The Wild and Scenic designation by Congress protects the country’s most spectacular rivers. Among the designated rivers in the Northeast are Connecticut’s Farmington River, Massachusetts’ Westfield River and New Hampshire’s Wildcat River.
Somewhat surprising is, according to the map, the only river in Maine designated Wild and Scenic is the Allagash River, and Vermont and New York have no rivers designated Wild and Scenic. American Rivers says they are continuing to work to add more rivers to the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System.
