Iconic Mountain Bike Race Returns To Boston Area In September

One of New England’s most popular mountain bike races is set to take place on the Massachusetts South Shore in September.

The Landmine Mountain Bike Classic has been a staple of the New England mountain bike racing scene for more than 20 years.

The year’s event is set to take place on Sunday, September 13 at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham, Massachusetts.

The family-friendly race offers several course distances designed to welcome as many people into competitive mountain biking as possible. Distances include 25-mile, 11-mile, 5-mile, and 3-mile single-lap courses designed to challenge both expert and novice riders alike. The event also offers a free Kids “Quarter Mile” race on a wooded course that’s both fun and accessible for beginning riders.

Held almost entirely on singletrack, the race showcases much of what makes Wompatuck one of the best places to mountain bike on the Massachusetts South Shore.

Racers will see a variety of trails as well as many of the park’s historic features from when the land was used as grazing grounds in the 1800s and a military compound from 1941 to 1962. Riders will pass old bunkers, blasting walls, railway beds, and stone walls.

The trails feature rocks, roots, berms, and minimal pavement.

All proceeds from the event go toward the Friends of Wompatuck and their work to improve the park.
