Two hikers who rangers said had no lights, warm clothing, and were out of food recently had to be rescued overnight on Mount Marcy.
According to New York Department of Environmental Conservation officials, rangers received a report of two overdue hikers shortly after midnight on Monday, September 7.
A friend of the two hikers reported them overdue. The hikers were reportedly planning to hike Mount Marcy, but their last known location at 7:42 p.m. was near Little Haystack Mountain.
Five forest rangers who were previously responding to an incident in the Dix Range responded to the report of the overdue hikers.
Rangers located the two 20-year-old hikers from Michigan at 5:30 a.m. The hiker reportedly had never hiked in the Adirondacks before, and did not have headlamps, warm clothing, and they were out of food.
Rangers hiked with the two hikers to the trailhead. The incident was clear at 8:18 a.m.
