Man Seriously Injured In 30-Foot Fall At Maine Waterfall

Rescuers in Maine carried an injured man hundreds of feet through waist-deep water after he was injured in a fall of roughly 30 feet on Wednesday.

According to officials with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, game wardens received a report at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13 of a 21-year-old who had fallen roughly 25 to 30 feet from a ledge near Screw Auger Falls waterfall in Grafton, Maine.

The man had reportedly landed in the water and sustained serious injuries.

Maine game wardens, members of Mahoosuc Mountain Search and Rescue Team, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Bethel Fire and Rescue, Newry Fire Department, Maine Department of Transportatin, and LifeFlight of Maine also responded to the scene to assist in the technical rescue.

Due to the challenging terrain in the gorge, rescuers carried the man through the water roughly 300 feet downstream to safely get him out of the gorge. He was then taken to Maine Medical Center by a LifeFlight helicopter.

There was no further information on his condition.
