Avalanche Pass in the High Peaks Wilderness is currently impassable.
Multiple mud and rock slides that took place Monday have made the trail to Avalanche Lake in the Adirondacks impassable.
According to officials with the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, the popular trail through Avalanche Pass is closed until further notice following the slides that happened on Monday, July 14.
Routes impacted by closure are passage south to Lake Colden area from the ADK Loj, and loop routes over Algonquin Peak, Mount Colden, and Mount Marcy back to the ADK Loj through Avalanche Pass.
An alternate route through Lake Arnold is possible but extremely wet and muddy, said officials.
The Avalanche Pass Trail was supposed to have work done beginning next week and continuing into August.

Officials said there was also another slide on the south east side of Mount Colden into the Feldspar/ Lake Arnold trail, blocking that trail as well, although not as extensive.
Forest rangers were reportedly headed to the area of the Avalanche Pass slides on Monday night to assess the damage.
