In a blow to fans of East Coast snowboarding, the Burton U.S. Open has announced it is leaving it’s home of 30 years in Vermont for new powder in Vail, Colorado.

Yesterday, Burton Snowboards and Vail Mountain made the joint announcement that the Burton U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships would be held in Vail instead of Stratton Mountain, Vermont, as of 2013.

The Burton U.S. Open began in 1982 and is the longest-running snowboarding competition in the world. For last 27 years, the event has been held at Stratton. While Burton officials thanked Stratton and talked about how the move to Vail will benefit the event, the move is sure to disappoint East Coast riders. (READ MORE)
