On the heels of a warning from New York officials about aggressive bears in the Adirondack Mountains comes a report that a hiker recently stabbed a persistent bear with a knife.
According to an article in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation has heard of several incidents of nuisance black bears between Wakely Dam and Stephens Pond in the town of Indian Lake.
In one encounter on Wednesday, September 18, three bears followed a woman hiking alone. The woman tried to scare the animals away, but they continued to follow her. When one bear got very close to the woman near Stephens Pond, she felt threatened and stabbed the bear with a knife. The bears then fled. (READ MORE)
