This Vermont Race Combines Donuts And Mountain Biking

Mountain bike races often come down to how strong your legs are or how technically skilled of a rider you are.

But a race coming up in Vermont might come down to something completely different: How many donuts you can eat.

Stratton Mountain Resort in Vermont is hosting the Tour de Glaze Mountain Bike Race on Saturday, August 23.

Billed as Stratton’s most fun and flavor-packed mountain bike event of the summer, this timed cross-country race includes a sugary twist: every donut a rider eats during the race will knock two minutes off their total time.

For each lap, racers will climb the new Ground Control Trail, a 1-mile-long trail with 650 feet of elevation gain, and then descend the flowy Trail Forest 1 Green Trail.

Each lap totals about 2.5 miles.

Organizers will set up the donut station next to the MSS building to hand out the donuts and track the number eaten. Participants can’t start riding until the entire donut has been consumed.

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes by 10 a.m. Participants can race in one of three categories: Beginner (1 lap), Sport (2 laps), and Expert (3 laps).
