Representatives at a Maine outdoor center are warning skiers to beware of an aggressive owl that recently attacked a man.

According to a Facebook post by Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine, the “aggressive, dive-bombing” owl cut the man’s head in the attack.

They say the owl is likely a barred owl or great horned owl and is  protecting a nest in their Campus Loop Ski Trail area.

Officials say the owls are silent when they strike, so skiers won’t hear them coming. Pineland Farms has posted signs warning people to wear a hat or wave their arms over their head while passing through the area.
